Bendis & Marquez announced as new creative team for Invincible Iron Man relaunch
Fantastic news today from Special Edition New York as Brian Michael Bendis and David Marquez have been announced as the new creative team behind Marvel’s All-New, All-Different’ Invincible Iron Man series coming July!
From USA Today:
Bendis calls Invincible Iron Man “a futurist’s look at what he has to do next as a superhero” — the series picks up eight months after the conclusion of the current event series Secret Wars with Tony wanting to be a better man in every aspect of his life. (The recently wrapped Superior Iron Man comic had him based in San Francisco and being more of a jerk than usual.)In addition to his weaponry, Iron Man’s also getting a larger cast of characters, many of them new. Fans of Stark pals Pepper Potts and Happy Hogan will get to see them again at some point, but Bendis says he is instead focusing on introducing folks such as a love interest “who is smarter than him,” the writer says. “He can’t just be snarky Tony Stark and woo her. He’s got to earn her, and even that’s a challenge.
From what I’ve been reading this definitely isn’t a reboot as Bendis has stated he’ll be taking plot lines from Kieron Gillen’s previous run on Iron Man and Superior.
According to ComicBookResource:
He’s getting new armor, a new girlfriend, new villains, a whopper of a last page and thanks to Kieron Gillen who revealed that Tony Stark is adopted, we’re going to find out who Tony’s biological parents are — and I’m gonna tell you right now, they are Thomas and Martha Wayne,” Bendis told the crowd. “This new armor design has new cool things that it does, including — you know how Tony has 20-30 armors that show up? This one can turn into all of them.”
Bendis also confirmed that his Iron Man is 100 percent Tony Stark. “Everything that has happened to Tony is in continuity and will be reflected in the new series.
Very excited about this news especially if Bendis is involved as it means Marvel will be throwing some weight behind this new series. Also Benis is well known for laying foundations for bigger story lines so I’m expecting something epic! Let me know what you think in the comments below.

Review: So Secret Wars in upon us and to be honest I’ve been a little scared at the prospect of reading this event. The reason, DC ruined their universe with the NEW 52 and my passion for comics along with it. Marvel, like DC, are saying this isn’t a reboot and after reading Secret Wars #2 I believe them. It’s a universe epic-changer with a difference… Grant Morrison isn’t writing it. Now that I understand the whole premise of Battleworld and what Marvel are trying to achieve I’m in awe the idea. It’s clever and once everything is put back in its place I’m confident we’re going to get a new solid direction with more characters available we, as fans, have come to love over the years.
Iron Man Classic Covers – Iron Man #300
So I’ve thought about a new weekly slot where I’ll be posting some of my favorite classic Iron Man covers. To start the site off I wanted to post this great cover for Iron Man #300 by Kevin Hopgood, the original designer of the War Machine suit. The cover also came in a variant foil cover which I managed to pick up this weekend at a local comic convention.
